Egypt is home to many nationalities; some of them chose to open restaurants and show Egyptians their ethnic cuisine, or to be a home to their fellow expats. A great meal transcends all cultural boundaries and trying new food is the best way to indulge yourself.
Below is a prejudicial list of all the wonderful authentic restaurants in Egypt, uncovering hidden regional food gems. Bold and brave taste buds are essential; and in some cases, a stomach of steel is encouraged (but as Egyptians, we all have it anyway).
1. Osmanly – Turkish Cuisine
The Turkish cuisine is a colorful cuisine of aromatic rose desserts to robust griddled meat. The best place to try Turkish food is Osmanly Restaurant. 2. Birdcage – Thai Cuisine
Thai food is internationally famous for their harmonic blends. Blending elements of several Southeast Asian traditions. You don’t need to know what Thai food is, you only need to try it. Birdcage is the perfect place for this in Egypt. They have outstanding service, delicious food, exquisite style and super helpful staff. Crab meat with sugarcane is a must try.

3. Marrakech Restaurant – Moroccan Cuisine
Exotic North African dishes that are big on flavor, aroma, and spice. While Moroccan cuisine can be found in many menus, it’s still criminally under-represented in Cairo, but Marrakech Restaurant came to make the best of what is an exotic cuisine with a modern retouch. The food? You won’t find more refined examples of Moroccan dishes anywhere else in the country.

4. The Greek Restaurant – Greek Cuisine
The cuisine of Greece is pretty much familiar, using core ingredients, including feta cheese and tender lamb. The Greek is a small intimate restaurant in Maadi serving delicious Greek food bursting with Mediterranean flavors. They also have delicious healthy options.

5. Indira Restaurant – Indian Cuisine
The Indian cuisine is simply one of the world’s most authentic must-try food. However, you don’t have to fly around the world to eat Indian food when you can simply visit Indira. A highly recommended place that will give you a wonderful experience, with a very friendly environment and certainly great food. Punjabi Samosa, Yellow Dal Tadka and steam rice with Alu-Mutter curry are heavenly.

6. Pepenero Restaurant – Italian Cuisine
We all come across daily options of pasta and pizza in almost every menu of all restaurants, yet the true Italian restaurants that offer them in Egypt are few. We recommend to you Pepenero in Korba, if it is your first visit don’t judge the place from its entrance. The place has a comfortable large indoor area with comfy upholstered chairs and wooden tables, while the outdoor area, has wooden tables overlooking a stunning street view. The menu boasts all sorts of Italian eats from pasta, pizza, fish platters, beef and chicken dishes. The staff is extremely helpful and the service is really good.

7. Barbacoa – Mexican Cuisine
Cairo has seen many Mexican food restaurants, the familiar combination of beans, rice and meat might remind you of our very own Koshari. Barbacoa Mexican Grill in Maadi will bring you the full experience of Mexico along with the sizzling taste of guacamole and tacos. The menu is full of all the classic Mexican dishes you wished were properly made here in Cairo. Cheaper than a flight, Barbacoa will take you to Mexico.

9. Wienerwald – German Cuisine
Franchised all the way from Germany, Wienerwald the German Rotisserie chicken, has gained a quite remarkable reputation in Egypt with many branches all over Cairo. The decoration is contemporary and fresh, with pale wood furniture and green accents reflecting the natural greenery of Germany. It is a bit confusing knowing that “wiener” is a type of German sausage yet Wienerwald specializes in rotisserie chicken dishes – all of which are Halal. They are expanding in Egypt and offering quick, delicious, quality meals that are not greasy or unhealthy. Definitely worth the try!

10. Shogun – Japanese Cuisine
We all agree that Japanese means sushi, yet not all sushi restaurants give you the full Japanese experience. Shogun does this with superiority, the place is kinda luxurious but you won’t regret a penny you paid, and you will want to relive the experience as often as possible! The best sushi you will ever have in Egypt, relaxing atmosphere, heavenly food taste, and great service. Simply perfect! Spend your money to get this memorable sushi treat and don’t belittle reserving the teppanyaki tables.
