Monday night, Manchester witnessed one of its biggest terrorist attacks in years.
American pop star, Ariana Grande, was performing in a sellout concert at the Manchester Arena with thousands of people in the audience. Fans, many of them teenage girls, enthusiastically shared selfies as they enjoyed the performance.
At approximately 10.30 pm after the show was scheduled to finish, a “huge bomb-like bang” rang in the arena.
Witnesses were thrown from their places and knocked to the ground with some comparing the place to a sudden blood bath. The arena was filled with dozens of people including children injured, even presumably dead.
The sudden shock caused thousands of people panicking and running towards the nearest exit.
Greater Manchester Police and several emergency service vehicles streamed into the arena for aid. They carried a controlled explosion on a suspicious item in the Cathedral Gardens near the Manchester Arena. However, the item turned out to be abandoned clothing.
22 have been confirmed dead with more than a hundred injured, including 19 children.
The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, has ordered that the campaigning for the national elections to be paused to mourn the nation’s loss. She said that her thought are with the victims and families of those affected by the attack; “what is being treated by the police as an appalling terrorist attack”.
Theresa May just very recently declared the nation is currently in the highest and critical official terror threat level and launched Operation Temperer. This will plunge the kingdom in a state of emergency where at many sites armed police forces will be replaced by soldiers.
The person who is behind this very unfortunate event is Salman Abed, a Libyan-British citizen born in Manchester.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, but the US advised the British government not to be hasty with jumping to conclusions. Especially that ISIS claims responsibility behind every single terror attack that takes place.
However after thorough investigations, a link between Abed and Al-Qaeda and ISIS has been formed. After screening his movements, it was discovered that he has been travelling back and forth from Libya numerous times.
Donald Trump, who is conducting a comedic tour in the Middle East, sent his condolences to the families of the victims of the attack. During one of his speeches, he condemned the “evil losers” behind the attack.
We all send our condolences for the families and friends of the victims and shall remember them in our prayers.
