There are certain times of the year that are packed with certain memories for every one of us. Summer time means bathing suits, frappuccinos and traveling to the beach. Whereas; winter means Christmas and Pumpkin Spice Lattes! Even though it’s a marketing gimmick that we all fell for, honestly, this stuff really tastes amazing! Every white girl’s dream right? Well, not quite.

Calories

Did you know that a grande size with whipped cream accounts for 380 calories, which is more than a McChicken sandwich (360 calories) from McDonald’s! If that alone didn’t give your brain a little twist, well, hold on to your hats.
Whipped Cream

A regular cup of PSL has some espresso, milk, whipped cream, pumpkin spice, and syrup. It all seems normal right? Well, the whipped cream that we all just can’t resist contains a chemical called Carrageenan that’s known to cause inflammation, gut irritation and possibly cancer. So next time, hold the whip.
Syrup

Hate to break it to ya, but the PSL knowingly known for its rich pumpkin flavor comes out of a pipe bottle. That’s right, it’s all caramelized flavored syrup that makes a regular latte into a ‘pumpkin’ spice latte. All syrups have food coloring, and the one used for the PSL is marked the most dangerous of them all. As results have shown, it could lead to cancer.
Sugar

Remember when sugar, spice and everything nice was a dream? Well not anymore! Picking up a hot cup of PSL would mean you need to book a new dentist appointment as a grande size has around 50 grams of sugar. That’s 2 grams more than what any person’s sugar intake during the day! So don’t pick up a muffin to go with your hot beverage.

And as the old saying goes, think before you eat, but in this case, think before you drink. With all that said, what’s wrong with a good cup of Joe?
