Why Ramadan Is Your Best Chance To Quit Smoking

As Ramadan comes around the corner each year, the few days before are usually filled with anxiety. And everyone has their own special reasoning for it, some are anxious about all the house gatherings they have to make, about how many bags you need to buy and donate, some are scared of the thought of surviving work without coffee, or cigarettes.

Which, as it so happens, is the same exact dilemma people encounter and worry about each year, but the human brain isn’t so simple as to calm you down and tell you ‘you did it before, you’ll totally do this!’ because each year has its new extra baggage. But who isn’t up for a challenge?

So why is Ramadan the best chance to quit smoking? Because you’re fasting over sixteen hours a day, and you do that for thirty days straight. Yes, you will probably smoke afterward, but the amount is nothing compared to how many you’d smoke during a normal day. Take advantage of this, you’re body isn’t as dependent on chemicals during Ramadan, which emphasizes the beauty of fasting. But if you’re going to do it, do it for yourself.

Smoking kills, you’ve seen it on all the packages. And yes, second-hand smoking also does kill. But that never really stopped you from smoking around them right? Regardless of why you’re smoking in the first place, a lot of studies have shown that Ramadan is an appropriate time to take advantage of and take the decision to better your life, health, and excel.

Not because it’s the month of worship, rather of the changed lifestyle, how people’s behaviors change, how in the first day everyone is all cranked up and can’t keep their eyes open, while on the last day, people seem to be more energized, even expressing saddens that Ramadan is going away. Then the thought of Kahk next morning comes into play, never mind right?

Here are some tips that can help you in the process of nicotine withdrawal during Ramadan:

If you can only smoke when you’re out, then try and be around the house more often.

Try going to the gym or joining some fitness classes

Try and avoid coffee or any other drink you usually always have a cigarette with.

Set a goal for yourself and come up with a prize, you’ll feel more motivated to keep going.

Think about how much money you’ll save. Now that’s a deal maker huh?

And never forget, you can do this, if you really want to, you are the champion, my friend!
