For a while, a lot of people have been complaining about the fact that whenever you pay for your beverage, you never get all your change back, or the common we owe you two, three, or even five pounds. Everyone seems to have encountered this issue and even voiced their opinion and thoughts on the matter on social media, which was a trending topic for a hot minute.
But it appears that there might be a solution to this dilemma, while it’s not really like the end of the world, but it is a problem that needs to be addressed. No, the solution does not require you to sharpen your memory to remember how much money you’re owed every time you visit, but the coffee shop probably owes you like 5 free drinks by now.
I was driving through the newly added, and awesome Starbucks drive-through in Cairo Festival City. I ordered my drink, which costs 31.5 EGP, when the drive-through guy asked for 32. Yep.
So I proceed and gave him 35, and he gave three pounds back. Nevertheless, this is a regular drink for me, I know how much it costs, in all sizes, with or without the additives, and this incident has occurred probably a dozen times, but I just kept ignoring, like everyone else. Until that very day.
I took the receipt, checked the numbers and looked at him. A bit annoyed, I asked if he read out the price right, he takes the check and admits that he owes me money. So I confronted him, telling him that the coffee shop probably owe me 30 pounds by now, and just from this branch. His reply was that they have a problem getting small change (1 pound and piasters), apparently the bank doesn’t provide it for the shop. Which is still kind of weird and hard to believe, however, he told me that, next time, if there is any change left, no matter how big or small, you can add it to the infamous AlShaya card.
I know, everyone hates this system, but if you think about it, a few visits here and there, with a little change owed here and there, and you’ll be able to get a free cup of coffee, or even use this credit in the other stores associated with the AlShaya card.
It might not be the optimal solution, plus it’ll take a bit of a while. But think about, you’ll be getting your cash back! Won’t feel ‘robbed’ in the sense anymore. And yeah, you worked hard enough, so there’s no shame in it at all.
If you don’t like the way something is, all you need to do is speak up, question and doubt the system, and you just might stumble upon a solution.
